Community Assistance

Community Assistance

In 2018 the Committee for Community Assistance was formed with the purpose of  creating an organizational structure that will enable members of our Muslim community to mobilize effectively to support one another in situations of need. If you are in need, are aware of others in need that could use support, or want to be active in helping to organize support, please contact either Sister Nezha Oubella  (nezaya05@yahoo.com)  or Brother Mohamed Maataoui (simory2007@gmail.com)

Blue Box Sharing Cabinet:

As equal partners with our neighboring religious communities, we share responsibilities for helping those in need in the community around us. A new initiative is being established with Al-Huda, the Lansing United Methodist Church, the Congregation Tikkun v’Or, and the Lansing Community coordinators to install and maintain a new blue box food cabinet in a nearby location to serve needs of local Lansing residents. We will make a food and essential household item drop box that you can bring items for when you come to the masjid to support this effort.

Ithaca Kitchen Cupboard:

The Al-Huda Islamic Center is partnering with other congregations to serve individuals and families who rely on the Ithaca Kitchen Cupboard (IKC) to supplement their food needs. IKC is one of the oldest established food pantries in Tompkins County, and is currently operating from the Salvation Army location on North Albany Street in downtown Ithaca. Al-Huda is assigned presently to fill the orders and serve people coming for groceries and household goods on the fifth Tuesday of the month. This year the dates we are committed to are March 30, August 31, and November 30. Please contact us to be part of this effort, we need to provide three workers for each of these shifts. The present shifts are from 1:00 to 2:30 PM.
